Fujian Village Eatery

Dec 27th, 2006 • Category: Food (Hanzhong Road Stretch)

Fujian Village Eatery’s chinese name is 沙县小吃 [sha1xian4xiao3chi1]
Well, once again, to support the entrepreneurs who do good food… It’s a simple place with decently good food, especially if you’re tired of the standard fare (well-known restaurants that everyone knows about).

A husband and wife run this eatery. It’s a simple setup. What’s nice is the 拌面 [...]

Northeast Jiaozi

Oct 7th, 2006 • Category: Food (Hanzhong Road Stretch)

This place sucks. Northeast Jiaozi 东北菜饺子馆 [dong1bei3cai4jiao3zi3guan3] is the name.
First of all, for reasonable restaurant-type food, you’re better off going to the korean restaurant few doors away on the same side of the street.
Next, the people who wait on you are absolutely sloppy. I’ve seen the girl unintentionally stick her thumb into the rice she’s [...]

Yunnan Flavor

This restaurant was in the Nanda area up till late 2006. Now it’s moved to a more stylish place at 1912. To get there, just take a taxi to 长江后街 [chang2jiang1hou4jie1] which is adjacent to Babyface club at 1912. When the cab drops you off, Babyface is on your right, while the restaurant is on [...]

Xuanji

Xuanji 轩记 sits on Shigu Road 石鼓路 [shi2gu3lu4] right behind the Crown Plaza Hotel and the Golden Eagle Residential Apartments. They serve cantonese cuisine. The prices are reasonable for a casual but filling bite, and they keep to a standard of hygiene that is acceptable. I used to like the food there alot when it [...]

Gongguan Haipai

This place sits on Wangfudajie 王府大街 [wang2fu4da4jie1] on the opposite side of the road from where Jack’s Place is. Just so you can find the place, I took a photo of it during the day (without the lights on)…

Some dishes that I ordered include 紫苋菜 [zi3xian4cai4]. 苋菜 is spinach, and this one’s purple/red in color. [...]

Small Blue Whale

Jul 1st, 2006 • Category: Food (Hanzhong Road Stretch)

Xiao2Lan2Jing1 (小蓝鲸) is the name of the place.
Jing (鲸) means ‘whale’. So this place must mean ’small blue whale.’ They have two outlets on Wangfudajie. The one you see below sits next to Jack’s Place, and so is easy to find. The other one sits across the street next to a dvd shop. You have [...]

Gold & Silver Restaurant

Jun 30th, 2006 • Category: Food (Nanda/Nanshida Area)

If you notice, the restaurant is named after the street it’s on. This is the same street where Jack’s Place is. Walk further in and you’ll see this inconspicuous shop front with a old-looking swing door.
Walk in and you’ll be confronted with an interior decorated with rows and columns of photos taken from as far [...]

Huifeng Yuan (Cantonese)

Jun 29th, 2006 • Category: Food (Hanzhong Road Stretch)

Having eaten at this place a couple of times, I’ve had mixed feelings. It’s a cantonese food place. Inside of the restaurant, you’ll see all manner of framed photos - it does appear that famous actors and actresses from Hong Kong are amongst their patrons.
In any case, I like the porridges that they serve. The [...]
