Most of us have heard of PaulanerBräuhaus. German food and beer place. Munich sausage, pretzels, pork knuckle, sausages and of course home brewed Paulaner beer.

This place is huge, has a stage and dance floor for those who need a crowd. On the other hand, there are corners you can hide in with a group of friends, if you just wanna drink beer on with feet on nice wooden planks.

This place is on the Wutaishan hilly slope, opposite from the Suning Hotel (junction of Guangzhou and Shanghai road)

  1. Yea, that place sux - it looks like it’s for foreigners, but it’s really catered toward Chinese - if you go in there during the week, you’ll find rich Chinese go there to drink the “freshly brewed German” beer - sort of like the “real” alcohol sold at 1912, or the supposedly other “real” things you can buy in Nanjing - two thumbs down

  2. this place is really expansive for nothing good inside
I didn’t met the chef, good for me, but the food was enough
    first time, last time

  3. I also have to agree with you guys 100%, went there once awhile back, beer wasn’t bad(though the dark draft and wheat beer at Blue Marlin are better and much much cheaper). Food was just okay (bland, basic, uninspired, etc) which is about normal in Nanjing (Not sure how much of a “chef” he is judging by the food I got, but guess some throw the term around loosely, more like a “cook”). Service was pretty horrible, also unfortunately all too normal in Nanjing.
All this would be almost forgivable for a Western restaurant in Nanjing, except that the prices are really high compared to comparably average places around town. I really don’t mind paying above average prices, as long as the food, service, atmosphere, etc are above average. Paulaner is just a glorified Henry’s Home with a microbrew, inflated ego and inflated prices to match.

  4. I have to agree. The beer in Paulaner is ok, but the food is very very average. And it is really overpriced for Nanjing….

  5. Nanjing Paulaner was awaited for long times, but after opening of the Restaurant, the quality of food was awful. Waitresses unskilled, food was tasteless and the most outraging thing was comment of the chef, who was not willing to serve the customer adequately.

Today I met this guy in a bar close to Paulaner (why is he not drinking beer in Paulaner) and he pissed me off with his very unqualified remarks.

There are much much better restaurants in Nanjing with much better service and higher skilled chefs than in this awful restaurant.
