in my opinion… ciao italia has the real deal (well, you know… something that satisfies until you can get back home), followed by jimmy’s.
ciao italia has the thin, crispy, wood-fired crust. eventhough they lack on the choice of toppings, the basics are there to satisfy.
jimmy’s has a good crust… slighty crispy with a chew. they definitely don’t lack on the creative combination of toppings and have real pepperoni! i usually just opt to “build my own”.
if you want to pay for franchise pizza… papa johns’ original with a choice of thin or thick crust is my choice. a little pricey though.
just a note… other than the franchise pizza joints, i’ve noticed restaurateurs skimp on the pizza sauce. if you’re like me… i like my pizza saucy! so, you might have to ask for extra pizza sauce when ordering.

If you click on the nanjing normal university ‘click-map’ below, you’ll see a GREEN strip named NINGHAI RD.
john’s pizza is on the part of ninghai rd that’s ABOVE hankou xi road (which is yellow is color and runs east-west).
john’s pitz is on the RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD, along with other restaurants, including:

John’s pizza has daily specials posted on the blackboard outside (you can see it in the picture). However, they are all in Chinese so I don’t get much. I’ve never been inside. Is the menu also just in Chinese?

Best Pizza in Nanjing is in Ciao Italia in Xinle Yuan on Shigu Lu, close to the Sheraton end. It’s the only pizza in Nanjing worth eating - well, Bella Napoli is a good second.
Real Italian pizza cooked in a real wood fired oven.

In Nanjing there is a place where genuine Pizza is available. That is Bella Napoli in East Zhongshan Road.

The pizza here was quite tasty. I ended up getting a Hawaiian Pizza. I think it was a 9″ pizza, which made it seem like a personal pan pizza. The crust was the highlight of it, not too crisp and not too soft. There was too much ham for the amount of pineapple, but that was my only real complaint. Obviously, no pizza is ever like pizza from home, and your mileage may vary, but I found John’s Pizza quite satisfying.
