Another pizza place where english teachers and other types kinda hang out.
Where: In the enclave behind Ciao Italia and next to Himalaya. This enclave is the Sunglow Bay area about 300m south and east of the sheraton.

PS: This thread has been edited. We will approve comments on food environment etc, but not anything which personally maligns. We hope you know what we mean.
Just a head’s up everyone, little drunk so excuse any and all typos lol.
I just got back from jimmy’s, and Jimmy will be taking two weeks off to look after William (his kid) that has been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. Obviously we all hope that his son pulls through fine of course.
In the interim, Leroy will be running the bar and there will be two-for-one cocktail specials to, in Jimmy’s own words, ‘Rival the goddamn kraut out of Secco!’ lol
So yeah, show your support to Jimmy as the hospital bills will be killer and go there and drink! Not only that, as everyone knows, when Jimmy is not there Leroy is generous with free shots and mugs of beer, so even though you’ll be spending, you’ll be saving too on the cocktails and ‘free’ Leroy’s drinks.
And no, I didn’t get anything for helping promote this but you know Jimmy, when he tells you to spread the word you do it!

Say what you will about the guy but Jimmy’s Tomb Sweeping Special kicks serious ass! Everything on the menu, drinks, food, even Leroy is buy one get one free until Tuesday, best deal in this town, go Jimmy!!!
Jimmy’s is okay for what it is but if you go make sure you pay after receiving each drink, because that bar is known for overcharging inebriated customers. The food is not worth it so skip on that, too.

we encourage you to give out USEFUL feedback if possible, i.e. how can you walk in and decide that the owner of the pizza place is a “filthy human being.” Sounds really personal.

My friends and I went there the other night and as the only females there had every ugly white guy in the bar leering at us, and they were all ugly old and fat! The drinks were overpriced and fake and the pizza was shit. The owner is a filthy human being that needs new clothes, a shower and a facial. For desperate women only

Nice Food, Nice People, Nice Conversations. Very good Price/Value. And some extras and entertaining stuff that you will not find in any other place in Nanjing. In fact it is very different because it is an “good-old-honest-Bar” and not a “artificial lounge place”
Doesn’t really matter who you are and what you think (black, yellow, brown, white, green, purple)……if you got a sense for humor you’ll really enjoy it. The food is quite good and fits perfectly to a cold beer. Of course this is not the place to have a dinner for your wedding aniversary…but what do you expect…its’s a Bar!
If you are looking for an elegant place where you can meet eloquent diplomats wearing suits while talking about non important topics…this is maybe not the place for you and also NOBODY is waiting for you to change it to a place like this.

Cheers Jimmy and Leroy for keeping the bar open to daylight on Monday morning for us after the rally in Nanjing. Jimmy’s rocks!! So hard to find anywhere cool in China like your place.
Next year we will bring the other rally teams and make it an after party to remember by filling up your bar.

I’m sitting in Jimmy’s with a VB in my hand as I type. Leroy (with his sexy new hair) and Jimmy (playing with his new Guinness Surger…) are behind the bar… So, I wish to dispel all Jimmy’s myths right now!…
Q1. “Jimmy, do you still do food deliveries?”
A1. “Yes, from 3pm to midnight, every day of the f*ing week”
Q2. “Jimmy, what are your opening times, baaaaabbbbbyyyy?”
A2. “We open at 3pm every day nowadays (adjusted to suit our customers’ needs, wants, and desires) and close the bar at 2am (earliest) and a lot later when required (which is often!)

A3. “Our regular menu is until midnight. After midnight, we serve Aussie pies and sausage rolls”

Its true, no more deliverys, I went into check and sadly its true… If you have a VIP card he will but you have to pay the cab fare so you may as well come in to eat, the reason is simply that too many drunk tossers were ordering food as pranks… But thats what you get in a jock bar I guess.
the GOOD news is the kitchen is open till closing time now, so jimmys is now the last pizza bar open at night so if you have the midnight munchies its worth the trip in! normaly he doesent close till 3am-ish…

Yo me and my bruv went to jimys the other day and we had a pizza and it was really HUGE! Good fresh mushrooms and tomatos too but sadly we where told that jimys no longer does deliverys, so go there, and eat there, but dont call up for chub and grub because the deliverys are no more.
And the place is cool and recomended not just by me but by the other forein english teachers at my school

I like Jimmy’s. Most the time I really felt at home there. Great customers to hang with and Jimmy and Claire are good people. Food most the time was very good. If you didn’t like something say something.

Forget Hunt’s, thats glorified ketchup. Barilla’s olive pasta sauce is where it’s at, I could drink that straight from the jar! But at 35RMB a jar its a bit more than that Hunts garbage
To quote comic book guy from the simpsons… Worst burgers EVER! the only good thing on the menu at jimmy’s is the spaghetti bolognese because he uses hunts brand sauce which I love and you will too, dont eat ANYTHING on the menu if its made there… the pre-made food is good like the frozen pies and spaghetti bolognese but the burgers are terrible, I dont know who posted the last msg but he/she is nuts! Oh the women out the back are GREAT at their job… (They make great “boom boom” and are less then 150rmb a job)

You know, I had Jimmy’s pizza before, thought it was mediocore and wrote it off. But this crazy pro-Jimmy’s hippie guy appears to be honest and admits the pizza is “only ok”, but the other menu items are better. I respect that and think I will give them another shot for non-pizza items. After all, there really arent many decent western food spots in the city (though Les 5 Sens is the sh!t) So, crazy hippie looking guy, what is good there?

I have to agree with anonymous’ take on the food at Jimmy’s. But then again, this is so true of most of the western-style eateries in NJ so what do you expect? I still eat there, but always take care to down few cold ones first. And if you don’t like the owner/staff, don’t go there, the rest of us will make our own judgment, PRIVATELY.
hmmm i dont know much bout jimmy, but from what i’ve seen of him the guy looks like a nice chap but the pizzas you get at jimmy’s are crappy.. the ketchup they use is not one bit nice, the pasta makes you wanna puke.. the only good thing at jimmy’s is the “onion ring”..

It’s pretty sad when people have to use the internet to try and damage one man’s reputation. The staff at Jimmy’s are friendly and attentive, the food is good if you’re in the need for a quick Western fix, the beer is great (Jimmy’s had the best draft beer in Nanjing IMO - it just tastes fresh and not stale).
I guess some haters just can’t stand to see a man do well for himself while they are stuck teaching folks how to say ‘apple’ in English.

Unfortunately, as the “Sad Commentary” writer has pointed out, some voters believe in Obama because he is “Harvard educated”, and “whose father is from Kenya”. We know W. Bush and Clintons are all from Yale, a school the same good as Harvard. So, “harvard educated” is not the reason they voted for Obama. Therefore, “whose father is from Kenya” may be the only reason made them vote for Obama. Again, voting, or (dis-voting the other party) because of candidate’s color or country of origin, is racism!! So, who do you call a racist?
It isn’t fine cuisine (try finding that in NJ). It doesn’t pretend to be. But tastes decent, it is American themed (and there is nothing wrong with that, especially when that is your intent), and this is a key one, I’ve never been sick after eating there, which I can’t say for many other fine establishments in NJ.
The drinks are honest…the Budweiser comes from a keg straight from Anheuser Busch Budweiser Wuhan Brewery, and the spirits are true to the label and not substituted with inferior swill (as is VERY common in other establishments). No extra water here.
They do show American football on TV, which is pretty cool if you are a fan of that, because you don’t see it many other places. They also show soccer (OMG, I’ve exposed myself as an American! Curses!) until I want to scream, but hey some of the other patrons enjoy it, and mama taught me to share. Props and much love to all you kickball fans out there.
The staff rocks…Leroy, Cindy (Xin), FengFeng (spelled it wrong, I’m sure) are very nice. So are the others too numerous (Jimmy, you do need to consider labor costs my friend) to mention. Oh, and Dingo. My, my, my…you’ve got to see him to believe him.
Oh, and the bathrooms. THE ABSOLUTE BEST BATHROOMS IN CHINA!!! PERHAPS THE WORLD! I WENT TO THE BATHROOM A BOY AAANNNDDD RETURNED A MAN!
So, decent food, decent drinks, nice staff…beats staying home blogging!!!
I did have one bad experience…about a year ago, he had these narrow little stand-up tables, and I flipped my pizza right on to my Armani (a suit wearing American..Burn Him!!!). Cost me a fortune (about 6 RMB) to get it cleaned. Soured me, and I didn’t go back for a long time. They didn’t miss me. From the pictures on the wall, they had a lot of fun while I sulked. But they did get rid of the narrow tables, so all is well now.
Finally, I have to say the owners are nice people…and I often don’t agree with many things they say. But I would defend with my life his right to say it (plagiarized, not sure from whom, but it sounds cool).

I just got back from Missouri helping with the Obama campaign. The last 8 years the conservatives had the White House and we know the results in Iraq, Katrina and the worldwide economy. That era is now over because the majority of Americans decided to evaluate a person by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
Racism and other prejudices led to the Nanjing Massacre, the Holocaust, Rwanda and so many more tragedies of the human condition. Sadly it is never just the racist that causes emotional or physical injury, it is also those who stand idly by in passive support: watching, laughing, cajoling. I do not accept hateful comments from friends nor family nor strangers. Though Jimmy will never get my business, the irony of it all is that, in all likelihood, the world economy including the local economy will likely improve over the next few years because of the Harvard educated President elect of the USA whose father is from Kenya: a man named Barack Obama.
PS Your comment about Canada is somewhat amusing since there are very few, if any, countries which are better educated with better health indicators nor a better standard of living than “liberal” Canada.

It’s amazing how so many ‘people’ can drag themselves out of the woodwork to come running to Jimmy’s defence and even more amazing how a few bad reviews of a place can bring out so much defensive emotions and lead to heated discussions about racism from all sides. Still, I guess it’s all good for business eh? Or rather not. If you like Jimmy’s place, feel free to hang out there- if you don’t then spend your hard earned cash elsewhere. It’s not like there isn’t many more places in town to go.
Me, I don’t go because I didn’t like the place on the 2 times that I did go. The ‘meat feast’ sandwich was good, but the pizza was just awful. I’ve never met Jimmy and so have no opinion on him - it’s just his restaurant in not my kinda place. That’s MY choice and if you don’t like it…, well, like I really give a damn what You think.

Umm…Okay, the posts refer to the establishment discriminating against ethnic Chinese patrons, not black, white, purple or green Aussies, Englishmen, Bulgarians or Guatemalans. So the fact that you’re a “black Englishman” who doesn’t feel discriminated against is hardly relevant. But as you guys are the experts, my friends and I probably were just overly sensitive and just unfamiliar with the stellar customer service methods of the hung over “expat” (and I use that term verrryyy loosely) staff who “helped” us with our issues.
Though as this conversation has long passed the point of being anything remotely resembling constructive, I will not waste any more of my time and agree to disagree on what entails racism and leave this thread.
In the future I will leave all my personal experiences and opinions out of the “comments” section of a “discussion” website, as it appears that the concept of rational thought, open discussion and objectiveness is not something served to Jimmy’s patrons.

I am a black Englishman. I have been drinking in Jimmy’s for about four months now and I have never experienced any of the above. Jimmy is a great bloke to chat with and is always a witty conversationist. I find it rude and, to be honest, complete crap to say that either Jimmy or his staff are anything but hard working and very polite. In fact the only retards around here are people who slag others off like this.
I feel completely at home at Jimmy’s and recommend the place to anyone who likes to have a great time out in Nanjing.

Can you clarify your points, as it sounds to me that you’re saying:
1. Those who call someone who acts in the way the previous poster described as racist are also racists who don’t respect Chinese.
2. Those same people should “chill out” and have a sense of humor about these types of remarks as interpreting them as racist is “petty”
3. Those who see him as racist (and thus are racists themselves according to point #1 above) should look at themselves and determine why it is in fact they who are racists.
Just wondering if I understood correctly as I wasn’t quite sure. I’ve never actually spent any time in Jimmy’s as I’ve only had it a few times and was always take out or delivery, but I wasn’t terribly impressed, it was just “alright” in my book, but maybe it’s the dine-in atmosphere that’s so great. Oh and, don’t worry, the fate of a pizza shop operator will in no way affect my ego, so please speak freely.
We just ordered pizza from this place tonight. It was delicious, by far the best pizza we’ve had in China, lots of sauce that actually had flavor (no taste of ketchup at all!). Also, it came in like 25 minutes Definitely recommended.

Place kind of blows, staff is very near to being mentally handicapped, crust is too dense and dry.
Papa Johns is about the best I’ve found in Nanjing (go for the thin crust and hold the duck and scallops).
Still have to try the pizza at Ciao Italia and Bella Napoli.
