…making sense of the city

Ming Gu Gong

What’s there really in Ming Gu Gong?

Ming Gu Gong is where Zhu Yuanzhang, the first Ming emperor, built his imperial palace. This task took some 11 years, but was burned down within less than 30 years another Ming emperor. This palace, according to a Nanjing friend of mine, was then replicated when Zhu Di, the second Ming Emperor, moved the capital to Beijing.

This palace was rebuilt once again, but completely destroyed during the Taiping rebellion. So this area has quite some history.

But what’s of this historical site now?

Nothing really. But it’s a really nice park for kids and their grandparents…

And a building so that it’s not just plain ruins…
