Cable car down
The cable car station 索道 [suo3dao4] descends from its peak at Tou Tuo Ling to mid-levels at the observatory 天文台 [tian1wen2tai] down to the bottom close by Taiping Gate 太平门 [tai4ping2men2].
At the time of writing, it cost 35rmb per ticket. I took it all the way down. From this place in the sky, you can partake of an amazing view of the haze that blurs out the view of the city. If the haze bores you out, you can look below and try to experience what birds must see all the time…
If that’s not exciting enough, you can try taking photos of other people in the air…
The ride from top to bottom will take some 30 minutes. It’s a really comfortable ride with music in surround-sound mode. When you exit at the bottom of the hill, find the exit (walk down the stairs as seen below) and you’re back in the Taiping Gate area…
