Ascending Steeply North
May 5th, 2007 under Discover Nanjing
Out of interest, we explored yet another path from the north of the mountain. It’s along the very same lane that brings you to the Air Force Memorial. At the entrance you’re welcomed by a NO SMOKING sign…

It’s mainly dirt track. The path is rough and can get pretty steep at some places. Just remember to keep following the path upward, and you may be rewarded by beautiful sights and smells… We saw pluckable raspberries, aromatic flowers, and colorful worms…

But it’s all good, as can be seen by her look of approval…

Somewhere along the way, after some 45 minutes on the dirt track, we came onto a road, the kind that vehicles drive on. It was not that the road cut into our dirt track, more like we arrived on this road that ends at some military outpost on our left. We decided to continue on, forward and upward, that is.
A little further up, we came onto a vegetable field, left unattended to…

Whenever you don’t know where to go, just remember, it’s Tou Tuo Ling (the high point of the mountain) just like the sign below says…

You know, while we were climbing, we didn’t know what to expect, but were really relieved to see some hint of civilization in the form of man-made steps. When you see these steps, you’re not too far from the destination…

And you’re pop out of this little opening and appear finally at Tou Tuo Ling 头驼铃 [tou2tuo2ling3]…

Just to make sure we’re on the same page, look to your right side when you arrive. You’ll see a map of the mountain, and where Tou Tuo Ling is. The red arrow shows the distance we covered and the path we took. It took a little more than 1.5 hours to finish the ascent…

Let’s find out more about the Tou Tuo Ling area.
