Down to Purple Cloud Lake
Apr 28th, 2006 under Discover Nanjing
Before anything, pay the fella for the tix (70rmb for entry into the Ming Xiao Ling Tourist Zone) or else…

The first thing you do upon passing the gate is to marvel at the beautiful scenery in front of you. On a good day, you should be able to get a great view of the city from this side of the mountain…

After you’ve had enough of scenery, make your way to the left, and you’ll soon find the path down toward Purple Cloud Lake 紫霞湖 [zi3xia2hu2]. This descent is not at all easy and so be careful not to hurt your knees or toes. Try to walk sideways if possible, just like our friends Adrian and Charat are doing…

The path starts off with stairs, and then evolves into a dirt track. Look how much Alvin is enjoying himself!

At some point, the dirt track becomes even more trecherous. You’ll be walking on rocks on rocks on rocks…

At this point, you’ll be smart to start veering rightward as you continue descending. You know you’re free of pain once you see the stairs going down toward the Purple Cloud Lake…

This entire journey should take some 30 to 45 minutes. But the reward is worth the trip. Have you been to Purple Cloud Lake?
