Your SIM card is the one that you slot into the mobile phone. Usually, you’ll get number that starts with 138, 137, 139 etc…
My number is a 138 number from China Mobile. I applied for it here in Nanjing. It’s a number you can easily top up at China Mobile 中国移动通信 [zhong1guo2yi2dong4tong1xin4] shops. Below are the costs related to using this phone:
1. First 500 minutes free incoming for calls from anywhere. That’s per month. It’s free even from overseas.
2. After that, it will cost:
- 0.40rmb / min for incoming calls from China Mobile Users
- 0.60rmb / min for incoming calls from elsewhere, including overseas
3. Calls out will cost 0.20rmb / min (according to the lady who helped me)4. SMS outgoing is:
- 0.10rmb / min if the recepient is a China Mobile customer
- 0.15rmb / min if otherwise (i.e. Xiao Ling Tong 小灵通 [xiao3ling2tong1] or China Unicom 联通 [lian2tong1] user.
