Nanjing University of TCM

Mar 2nd, 2006 under Study

TCM is short for Traditional Chinese Medicine. Nanjing has been a traditional stronghold of TCM and many foreign students come over to study here.

As with most schools, there’s a new campus in the University Area about 45 minutes away from the city center. However, most foreign students still go to the campus at Hanzhong Road 汉中路 [han4zhong1lu4]. This is what the main entrance looks like…

Here’s some valuable info:

  1. Inside the campus
  2. Affiliated Clinic
  3. Eating on campus and outside
  4. Walking the Hanzhong Stretch: includes the invaluable bookstore you wanna know about!
  5. Nearby river stroll
  6. Nearby park: next to KFC across the road from the main gate

Any other questions, just leave a note below!

  1. Just a an extra comment to my last one. The building the clinic is in, is old and run down. Try not to be thrown off by this, as the doctors are still good. Your not exactly going in here for surgery (or i hope not anyways).

If you really want something more “new” try the TCM hospital (and eye clinic), just down the road on Han Zhong Lu. Its just a few blocks down. Head towards the Sheraton, and just keep walking about another block (towards xinjiekou). Its right on the corner. The outside never struck me as too big, but the inside is fair sized. Usually you can find some students, etc who speak english inside if you need some help. Just ask around “english please?”. Don’t be shy, most students are more than happy to practice there english with you.

  2. There is also a student clinic I believe, in a different building on campus( I was told when I went here). Cheaper treatment costs and cheaper herbs for students of this school only. (Bring your student ID).

PS. I rolled in just before lunch and had no problem seeing a doctor within 15 mins. My TCM doc had 20 plus years experience and was very nice. She spoke no english but understood alot of what I was saying though (in english). I brought a friend to help translate to make things more smooth.

If I remember correctly, it cost me a total of 7 or 8 yuan to register (get your little book) and see the doctor. My herbs were a little more steep at 52 yuan for 5 days worth of herbs for my cold. Pretty much the same as what it cost me to see a doctor at the nanjing medical university affiliate hospital (9 yuan), and get three days of antibiotics (about 50 yuan).

  3. most clinic/hospitals start at 8am. in the morning. to register to the more sought-after doctors, people (like me) have come at 530am to line up, and leave a small book, your medical record, in queue. Then reappear to jostle at 730am with the rest to ensure that if your queue number is 13, you’re not placed at number 15.

for the morning shift, the doctors leave at anytime from 1130am to 2pm, depending on the number of people they are seeing. good doctors exceed 25/day, some hit 40 on crazy days.

afternoon shift starts at 2pm or 230pm depending on season. in mid-autumn, the afternoon shift reverts to 2pm….

  4. Does anyone know what time the clinic is open each day?

  5. of course anyone can.
students from all over the world come here to learn.
the difference is that these very students will charge a hefty load when they return to their home country to open a clinic, whereas it’s cheap as rmb here in china.
save the lousy conditions in the hospitals, it’s worth a try coming here for chinese medicine treatment.

  6. Can anyone come here to receive treatment?

  7. Can anyone come here to get treatment?

  8. [...] One probable reason why there are so many is the number of korean students at the nearby Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine [...]

  9. hey
this school is my very explicit place where i can find good friends………….
