Taxis In Nanjing

Oct 24th, 2006 under Discover Nanjing

A friend of mine grabbed a ‘cab’ from the Nanjing West Train Station to Sheraton Kingsley Hotel. She paid the cabby 60rmb. Wow! Now, don’t ever take a taxi that does not have a meter if you don’t know what a reasonable price is. What happens when you enter the taxi is that the cabby will slap down the meter so that it looks like it does below…

And the meter will start running.

So make sure you look for a taxi with a meter and that the cabby slaps it down when he begins his journey.

It’s tough to be a taxi driver here in Nanjing. If they do their usual rounds within the city, they’d cover between 8rmb (starting price) and 15rmb per trip made. A trip from Xinjiekou to the Sun Yat-Sen Mausoleum will come to about 21rmb. Because the meter runs according to distance covered, it’s worse when there’s a traffic jam.

Q: How much can you make as a taxi driver in a day?
