Working the ADSL modem
Oct 14th, 2006 under Internet
Understanding how your ADSL modem works is important especially when you settle down and want to use the internet free of headaches.
While your modem may look slightly different, understanding how the modem below works may help you solve you internet connection issues. Let’s take a look at this working modem:

The modem is the link between the internet and your computer. It ‘takes in’ a telephone line, and ‘gives out’ an internet cable. The backside of the modem has three things plugged in:
1. The power source
2. The telephone line
3. The internet cable
On the modem are 5 light switches. On this modem - from left to right - they are named:
1. Power: This light should hold steady so long as this modem is connected to a power source.
2. ADSL Link: This light should hold steady so long as the telephone line is connected well to the modem.
3. ADSL ACT: This light will flicker to indicate that signals are being passed from the internet to the telephone line to the modem.
4. LAN Link: This light should hold steady so long as the modem is connect to the computer/router/hub etc in the home.
5. Lan ACT: This light will flicker to indicate that signals are being passed from the modem to computer/router/hub etc in the home.
Info courtesy of the guy who helped me set it up.
Where did you run the speed test? The 1mb is domestic speed, connecting to overseas sites will be much much slower.
Well, When I sign up for 1mb internet services, my isp gives me a adsl modem and the speed I get is only 441( done at speedest). I want to tweak my modem to make it faster.
Send the instrution to me at lee.zhijianged@yahoo.com
