Accessing The Internet
Oct 28th, 2005 under Internet
There are internet bars all around Nanjing. But if you want to get your own internet line, here are some pointers:
1. Foreigners need to subscribe for the phone line also if they want an internet line.
2. China Mobile provides various packages where the following offerings are different: Value of free phone calls that can be made from the fixed line; duration of contract (1/2 year, 1 year or 2 years). To provide a ballpark figure, it will cost about 100rmb a month to receive broadband. One of the places you can go to to get this done (I went there) is the China Mobile shop on the first floor of the Walmart Building. Bring your passport.
3. After registering, you’ll get a call from the technical guys who’ll make an appointment to come to your place to set stuff up. First to come is the guy who will set up the phone line. Next will be the guy who sets up the internet connection. After it’s all set up, the most important thing you need to note is the user-name and the password for connecting to the internet. Note that down.
4. For those who already have a phone line, then you just need to tell the China Mobile salesperson you already have one, and only need broadband 宽带 [kuan1dai4].
