Skyways Bakery

This bakery (Tel:025 - 83317103) is located on 160 Shanghai Lu, right close by nanda’s xiyuan hostel on jinying street.
It used to be on hankou road, but that was till mid-2008. then it was a smaller place serving the students of Nanjing University as well as Nanjing Normal University. This is what it used to look like…
Now it’s twice as big…
As for the food, try out their pastries, which taste better than many of the run-of-the-mill local bakeries in the Xinjiekou Area.
There’s another store on the part of Beijing East Road nearer to the White Horse Park. For those living near the Purple Gold Mountain, the other store might be a good place to go to if you want to stock up on your cheeze, wine, pasta sauce and cold cuts.
What on earth is that beggar always saying, ‘bakala’???
Skyways has crap sandwiches but decent bread. It’s a shame the one in Shanghai Road doesn’t sell the pizza slices like the one in Taipingmen does.
While the bread is nice, it is heavily overprices (European prices), and the service stinks. Seems that business is too good (they are makes really high profits) and so basic courtesy, common customer service have gone out the window. Their sandwiches provide measly amounts of ingredients and they charge 5RMB extra for a slice of ham etc… very poor quality compared to anything you would expect from an outlet owned and managed by a German and Swede.
They also allow a begger to sit day and night at their door which I just don’t understand. He makes more a month than my employees who work full 8 hour day in a factory - and he is not disabled… just sits on his arse all day.
I spend about 4000 RMB a year there and when accidentally I ordered a salad by ticking a box they insisted I take it…. their cost about 4RMB if that, a fraction of the money they make off me as a customer. If it was me I would have said “Don’t worry about it, here is your money back” and they could have put in the fridge and used the ingredients later.
If there was any decent competition they would be out of business in a flash.

a. chocolate almond bar (12 kuai)
b. brownies
