Xuanji

Xuanji 轩记 sits on Shigu Road 石鼓路 [shi2gu3lu4] right behind the Crown Plaza Hotel and the Golden Eagle Residential Apartments. They serve cantonese cuisine. The prices are reasonable for a casual but filling bite, and they keep to a standard of hygiene that is acceptable. I used to like the food there alot when it first opened late 2005. However, I feel that their standards have been falling of late, but still remain in the ‘passable’ range.

What I like most is the ease with which I can order food there. There are pictures on the menu, and the dishes are set pieces you can also find in many other cantonese restaurants, so let me share with you some of them:
川味回锅肉 [chuan1wei4hui2guo1rou4]: Literally, this means Sichuan-style ‘back to the wok’ meat. Someone explained to me that this is because it’s slightly spicy, and the meat (pork) is fried in the wok, taken out, and then put back in for a second round of frying. It’s a pretty safe meat dish to order when you’re out…

韩记豆腐 [han2ji4dou4fu3] is so-called not because of it’s korean a.k.a. 韩 origin. The last name of the restaurant owner is Han 韩, and this is a tofu dish she’s come up with. Sweet-sour with a spicy tinge.

Below is a soup dish that contains clams and crabs. Kind of nice, although I don’t remember the name…

That’s all for now.
