Train Travel: Nanjing to Shanghai
Jun 22nd, 2009 under Discover Nanjing
For those who live north of Hanzhong Road or Zhongshan East Road in Nanjing, it really does make sense to take the subway to the train station. From the Xinjiekou subway stop it takes only 2 kuai and 10mins. This is super when compared to the 22 kuai and 30mins I need to get there by taxi.
Cost of the fastest trains - the D (for dongche) series - is 93. This is excluding the 5 kuai service charge you pay when buying through an agent. Buy both ways if you can. It doesn’t make sense buying the return leg in Shanghai.
As far as I understand, the number of D trains doing the Nanjing-Shanghai train route has only kept increasing. But, the number of trains that arrive within 2 hours is limited at best. Most take 2.5 hours. Best to give your agent a call, and let them tell you which times are available.
