For those who are looking for foreign language books, this is the official (by name) place to go.
This is a picture of the second floor, where there are books (in chinese) to aid those who want to learn a foreign language using mandarin. Can life get any tougher than this?…
I agree, chinesepod is a great resource. They know what they are doing and the content is interesting. Plus its available at all levels (and prices). Check it out if you are interested in chinese conversation.
it’s a very very effective tool for improving your mandarin.
THe schools here use a 北京语言大学出版社 (beijing language university press) and really, some of the stuff is soooo boring and may help in language application.

Anyone have an opinion on which bookstore is best for finding books teaching Chinese language using English as the language of instruction?

- the western stretch of zhongshan east road (中山东路) is also known as “bookstore street” This first one you’ll see would be popular which is just at xinjiekou.
- if you keep walking eastward (toward purple gold mountain), you’ll pass xinhua bookstore (on your right), and after that the foreign languages bookstore (on your right).
- if you walk even further, you’ll end up at the library
